This gorgeous Japanese Iris is a complex combination of blue, violet, red, yellow and white. The huge flowers open in early to mid summer, grows best in moist soils in sunny areas

The genus takes its name from the Greek word for Rainbow and the array of colours available in the various groups of Iris do that name justice. Iris ensata has very large, spectacular flat, open flowers up to ±20 cm. Ideal for wet areas as pond edges. Later flowering than Iris germanica or Iris siberica.
