Iris germanica Sharp Dressed Man

A tall and most elegant Iris, bright, medium-purple standards and dark purple, almost black falls. Thick orange-red beards stand out against the black falls. 3 to 4 branches carrying on average 10-12 buds.

The genus takes its name from the Greek word for Rainbow and the array of colours available in the various groups of Iris do that name justice. Iris germanica, or bearded iris, has large flowers with a characteristic beard that attracts insects. This robust structural plant with thick rhizomes is suitable for sunny areas with poor soil.
